Diwali and Halloween party invitations online: ideas, wording and what to include

6 min read · Updated 2026-12-02

A festival party is easy to plan and easy to forget to invite people to properly. An online invitation fixes that: one link with the time in everyone's own time zone, the address on a map and a reply button. And because it is a web page, it can do what paper can not, like fireworks for Diwali or a haunted door for Halloween.

What to put on a festival invitation

  • A greeting: Happy Diwali, Shubh Deepavali, or a spooky line for Halloween.
  • Who is hosting, so nobody wonders who sent it.
  • The day and the time, which every guest sees in their own time zone.
  • The address and a map button.
  • What to wear: festive colours for Diwali, a costume theme for Halloween.
  • The plan for the evening and what is on the table.
  • A way to reply, so you know how many are coming.

Diwali invitation wording you can use

Keep it warm and short. For a family get-together: "May the lights of Diwali fill your home with joy. Come and celebrate with us: diyas, Lakshmi puja, sweets and a little bit of fireworks." For a party with friends: "Lamps, laddoos and late nights. Join us for Diwali at our place." For an office or a society: "You are invited to our Diwali celebration: rangoli, dinner and a cultural evening for the whole family."

Halloween invitation wording you can use

Halloween invitations can be playful. "The Millers dare you to a Halloween night: costumes, candy and a few screams." Or: "Come as your favourite monster. Leave as someone else's nightmare." Add the costume theme and a line about what happens to people who come without one.

Make the invitation part of the fun

An animated card sets the mood before the party starts. The Deepavali Grand template opens on a night sky: one tap and rockets whistle up and burst into fireworks, with the bangs on the moment they burst and Diwali music after; guests can light a row of diyas to reveal your blessing. Haunted Night opens on an old door: three knocks, lightning, a creak and a swarm of bats, then a trick-or-treat game inside.

For something gentler, Rangoli Lights has sky lanterns rising and a rangoli that draws itself, and Diya Glow is a free Diwali template with a glowing diya and gold.

When to send it

Send a Diwali invitation two to three weeks before, as calendars fill up fast in festival season, and a reminder two days before. For Halloween, two weeks gives people time to find a costume. Because the card shows a live countdown, sending the link again as a reminder works on its own.

How to send it on WhatsApp

  1. Make the card live and copy its link.
  2. Send it with one personal line, not just the link.
  3. Put it in the family or society group, and send it one to one to people who matter most.
  4. Ask people to reply with the button on the card, so the answers come to your WhatsApp.

Questions

Is there a free Diwali invitation template?

Yes. Diya Glow is free to use. To share any card you need a page slot, and the first one has a low introductory price.

Does the card play sound?

Deepavali Grand and Haunted Night make sound effects in time with their openings and can play music after. Sound only starts after the guest taps, and there is a button to switch it off.

Can guests see the time in their own time zone?

Yes. You set the time in yours; every guest sees it in theirs, which helps family abroad.

Can I use the same card for Diwali and Halloween?

They are different templates, but both are festival cards: you can switch a card from one festival template to another and keep your details.
